IUI (intrauterine insemination) is a treatment in which a prepared, concentrated sample of sperm is placed directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation, giving sperm a head start.
When IUI is used
It is less involved and less expensive than IVF, and is often tried first for mild male-factor or unexplained infertility. Success rates per cycle are lower than IVF.
For the full picture, including who it suits and how a cycle works, see IUI explained.
