OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome)
OHSS is a complication of IVF where the ovaries overreact to stimulation, causing swelling, bloating and discomfort. Most cases are mild, but severe cases need prompt medical care.
OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) happens when the ovaries respond too strongly to fertility medication, becoming swollen and leaking fluid. It can cause bloating, tenderness and nausea.
When to seek help
Most cases are mild and settle on their own. Severe OHSS is less common but needs prompt medical attention, so tell your clinic about worsening pain, rapid weight gain, or breathlessness.
