Antral follicle count (AFC)

AFC is an ultrasound count of the small resting follicles in your ovaries near the start of a cycle. With AMH, it helps estimate your ovarian reserve and how you might respond to IVF.

Antral follicle count (AFC) is the number of small, resting follicles a doctor can see on an ultrasound near the start of your cycle.

Why it matters

Together with AMH, AFC helps a clinic estimate your ovarian reserve and predict how many eggs you might produce during IVF stimulation. A higher count usually means a stronger response.
